What is an anchor windlass?
It’s a device installed at the bow of the boat to lift and drop
the anchor. The rope and chain is fed through the chain wheel (gypsy) and winds down into the anchor well.

Why install an anchor windlass?
The answer is simple! Ask yourself: Why am I still lifting weights, when
all it takes is a push of a switch?

The Pro 800 series have been developed with up-to-date technology and
ideals, with efficient spur gears instead of traditional worm gears which can
reduce of up to 30% ~ 50% motor power consumption.
The Stainless Steel Gypsy takes both rope and chain, and the electric
brake on the Gypsy can terminate the anchor fall at any time, as well as
hold it. A heat radiating system allow it to prevent motor overheating.

South Pacific's PRO 800 series are a perfect choice for those with boats between 6m ~ 9m and would like to enjoy the benefits of hassle-free and safe anchoring. With a maximum working load of 275kg and swift retrieval speeds, it’s sure to do the job next time you’re out boating.

It comes with a standard stainless steel gypsy, which takes both rope and chain, ideal for customisation to your individual needs. The electric brake on the gypsy enables you to terminate the anchor fall at any time and hold the anchor.

With new attributes such as the built-in torque limiter and additional stainless steel parts, it proves to provide smoother and more reliable operation. Enjoy the benefits of effortless and safe anchoring, the PRO 800 series is definitely an essential feature of your boat!

Below is the torque limiter which drives the gypsy via the winch drive shaft and is directly behind the gypsy cover.

This is part of the upgrade on the newer Pro model winches of more recent times.

There has been occasions where slight tightening of the large nut in the centre is required if the gypsy stops when retrieving the anchor. This depends on the type of use that the user has given the winch and it is noway a winch problem.

NOTICE: The right rope for anchor winches:

We at Precision Marine have personally experienced great variation in some nylon rope being sold on the Australian market. Some is not a suitable rope for many anchor winches.
We have tested some nylon rope and found it to jamb in the gypsy while retrieving the anchor so be careful.
When making a purchase be sure it is three strand medium lay which is stiffer than some. A good test is to hold out a 300mm section horizontal with two hands and on letting go one end it shouldn't sag past 45 degrees.

It has been brought to our attention that some owners of South Pacific winches that are using nylon rope with a swivel experience issues of the rope getting caught in the gypsy towards the end of the anchor line on retrieval. Our belief is the rope is unwinding slightly making it softer and letting it sink deeper in the gypsy causing catching at the bottom of the winch. I haven't had this problem with the rope we now sell. Sample of problem rope below.

Above picture illustrates the "pinched" section of rope
usually the outcome of a nylon rope being too soft.

NYLON ROPE - 3 STRAND LAID

This white nylon 3 strand rope is around twice as strong as silver rope. This allows a smaller diameter rope to be used which proves cost effective. Nylon rope is the strongest and most elastic synthetic fibre UV resistant rope. It is easy to handle, has great elasticity, shock absorbtion and abrasion resistance.Nylon rope is ideal for mooring lines, towing slings, commercial fishing applications and as a high quality, easy to handle anchor rope.
